Moberly Stars at the National Team Championships
Both Max and Daniel were selected to represent the London Area boys team at the GB National Team Championships in Walsall on Saturday.
The annual event brings together the various Judo areas /regions into 4 sections, boys, girls, men and women. The boys team consists of 10 players from u38k through to the 081k. The boys team is selected by Sensei Basil and the London area ensure a full squad with two selected players for each category where possible.
Daniel fought in the u38k section while Max fought the u42k section.
The first match was against the Northern Home Counties. Max contributed to the 9-1 winning margin with an excellent ippon win. The next match was against the North and although Daniel lost his contest the team progressed 8-2. The final contest in the pool pitted London against last years winners, Scotland. In a close battle, London ran out 6-4 winners with Max in winning form in his contest. The Semi-final was against the West and in yet another close battle, London secured victory 6-4. Daniel lost a close battle with his opponent, but the London boys team were in the final against the South.
The final was an intense battle. Max won his contest with an excellent hold down, but at the end of the match London were defeated by the South by 4 wins to 6.
Nevertheless the silver medal marked excellent progress for the boys team, and was great experience for both Daniel and Max.
