Moberly Stars at British Schools Championships 2020

Congrats to Maddie and Alex who both fought with great distinction at the British Schools Championships at EIS Sheffield this weekend. Both had to dig deep after suffering loses to claim battling bronzes. It was just rewards for their efforts and positive attitude. Very proud coach.

Moberly Stars at the Scottish Cadet Open and Alicante 2020

Well done to the Moberly Stars competing in Scotland and Spain earlier today. At the Scottish Cadet Open, Oliver was in great form winning the u46k with great judo, while Dinari was unlucky to be penalised in his final and had to settle for a silver in the u55k. Maddie missed the medals in the u70k. In Spain, Omar won a well deserved bronze medal at the Alicante Spanish super cup at u50k.

Big well done to our younger Moberly Stars that took part in the Bishop Stortford under 8 year old fun event yesterday. A lovely occasion introducing the younger members of clubs to competitive judo in a fun atmosphere.
Moberly stars, Rio, Andrian, Tyreece, Emma and Shiloh had a great experience and really enjoyed the day, displaying some great fighting spirit and energy. We are very proud of all of them.
Thanks to Ben for coaching the team

Moberly Stars Red and Yellow Belt Rumble 2020

The Moberly Stars Red and Yellow belt rumble yesterday was a great success. Not only did we achieve our objective of running an event with a maximum of 3.5hrs from weigh in to medal presentation, we had a great time doing it. Our Moberly family came together and showed great support for each other. We had so many experiencing an event for the very first time and i hope they all had a positive experience. We even had to cope with not receiving our bespoke medals (China was closed ?) and had some very last minute replacements!
I am so proud of my team of competitors, coaches, officials, referees and army of parents and volunteers that made this event such a success. Proud is definitely an understatement.

Moberly stars at English Cadet Open 2020

Big well done to Oliver and Omar who won silver and bronze at the English Cadet Open in Thetford yesterday. Both were in great form in a really tough event. Oliver won silver in the u46k and Omar took bronze in the u50k.
Just missing the medals were Dinari (u55k) and Kyle (u60k). Both losing bronze medal finals. Ali (u46k), Oliver (u55k) Corey and Kamal (u60k) Daniel (u66k) and Maddie (u70k) showed improvements but were a little unlucky not to progress further in the competition.

Well done to the Moberly Stars that took part in the London Area Development event at UEL on Saturday. Another well run event from the London area for Novice to 9th mons.
Gold was won by Tuugi competing in only his 2nd tournament, showing great fighting spirit and determination. Taking part in their first red belt event, silvers were won by Joanne Capacia and Ochir Griffin. Both Abdullah and Deborah were in great form but just missed out on winning gold, settling for silver in their categories. Bronzes were won by Micayah, Ruqayah, Isabella, Yahya and Cian.

Moberly Stars at the Junior and Senior Nationals 2019

Big well done to Dinari on winning a bronze at the Junior Nationals and earning a place on the GB Junior squad. In the pool to pool system, Dinari came through 8 contests in the u55k to win his second national medal. It was another tough day for Anna (u63k) and Daniel (u66k) with early exits. Reuel started very strongly winning his 1st and 2nd pools, but just failed to make the final pool.
In the Senior Nationals on Sunday, in the u73k, Tyrese just failed to make it into the final pool by a single penalty score after some hard fought wins. Reuel found it tougher in the seniors but got some worthwhile experience.
thanks to Zeynap for the great action shots.

Moberly Stars at the Pre Cadet and Cadet Nationals 2019

It proved to be one of the hardest and frustrating Cadet and Pre-Cadet National Championships for the Moberly Stars this year. A very large and capable squad were left ruing missed opportunities for podium finishes. However, Oliver Almond, made it a third year on the podium with a fantastic bronze medal in the cadet u46k. Losing his first contest seems to unleash his real fighting spirit and he battled hard to claim his reward. In the Pre-cadet boys, Luca Veras won his 2nd National medal with an excellent bronze medal in the u42k. He was in fantastic determined form just losing out in the semi-final but claiming his medal with two great throws. It was a humbling experience for the rest of the team, with Omar (u50k C) and Myeisha (u44k PC) both having to settle for 5th places. It was a 7th place for Liam (U50k C). Daniel was extremely unlucky in the largest group u66k (48) cadet with a 7th place, and Dinari was 9th (u55k). The rest of the team will have learned from this experience to return stronger next time. Ali, Oliver, Sacha, Kyle, Kamal, Alex, Corey and Kadan.

Moberly Stars at Minors and Masters Nationals, Hampshire, Adler Cup and Abu Dabi

It was a special weekend for the Moberly Stars as new and old members took to the mat in events in London, Hampshire, Frankfurt and Abu Dhabi.
At the British Masters, veterans Alex Grapman, Winnie and Richard took a clean sweep of gold medals in their respective categories with some great judo. Youngsters, Parnell and Kristians competing in the Minors Nationals won fantastic silvers in the u46 and u50 categories. Both were extremely unfortunate not to have taken gold medals.
Over in Hampshire, Veras Brothers, Liam u50k and Luan u66k won golds while Luca u42k had to settle for a silver in the Hampshire Open. Also competing in his first event for almost 5 years was Ramone Alexander in the u81k seniors. With the added pressure of the watching Mikes Judo club kids, Ramone rolled back the years to win gold with a very typical destructive performance.
Over in Germany, Oliver and Emma were competing in the Adler Cup. A very well attended event with huge groups. Oliver ended the day just losing out for bronze in the u46k While Emma picked up a battling bronze in the u9 year group.
In Abu Dhabi, John was earning more Olympic qualifying points at the grand slam losing to ex World Champion Tchrikishvilli from Georgia after a fantastic 1st round victory.

Moberly Stars at Welsh Junior and Senior Open 2019

Massive well done to Reuel who won a bronze medal in the Welsh Senior Open last week at u73k. Reuel put on quite a display of throwing skills winning an excellent bronze. He also fought in the Juniors but just missed the medals placing 5th. Daniel was also showing his vast improvement as he also came 5th in the u66k juniors. Anna (u63k juniors), Dinari and Oliver (u55k juniors), and Michael (u73k senior) just missed out but picked up worthwhile experience.
On the same day in Osterley a small but capable squad of u8s and red belts fought their hearts out at the Osterley Fun festival and Red belt event. Gold was won in the red belt section by Nyrel, Silver for Abdullah in his first red belt event and bronzes for brothers Igor and Tumon. The under 8s, Emma, Joanne, Adnan and Tyreece enjoyed another great event picking up more fantastic positive experiences. Emma also won the best girl award.
