Moberly Stars at Welsh Pre Cadet and Cadet Open 2019

Big well done to Omar who won a fantastic bronze medal at the Welsh Pre-Cadet and Cadet Open last weekend. It was an extremely tough weekend with large groups and a very high standard. Omar fought in the Cadet u50k and his neat newaza skills helped him win Moberly’s sole medal of the event. Just losing in bronze finals were Oliver A in the u46k and Dinari in the u50k. Tough day for the rest of the troop but with 4 weeks to National Championships it will be enough to motivate them to give it a greater effort. Cadets Ali (u46k), Liam and Oliver L (u55k), Alex, Kyle and Kamal(u60k) and Daniel (u60k) and Pre-Cadets Luca (u42k) and Myeisha (u48k).

Moberly Stars at Minors and Masters Nationals, Hampshire, Adler Cup and Abu Dabi

It was a special weekend for the Moberly Stars as new and old members took to the mat in events in London, Hampshire, Frankfurt and Abu Dhabi.
At the British Masters, veterans Alex Grapman, Winnie and Richard took a clean sweep of gold medals in their respective categories with some great judo. Youngsters, Parnell and Kristians competing in the Minors Nationals won fantastic silvers in the u46 and u50 categories. Both were extremely unfortunate not to have taken gold medals.
Over in Hampshire, Veras Brothers, Liam u50k and Luan u66k won golds while Luca u42k had to settle for a silver in the Hampshire Open. Also competing in his first event for almost 5 years was Ramone Alexander in the u81k seniors. With the added pressure of the watching Mikes Judo club kids, Ramone rolled back the years to win gold with a very typical destructive performance.
Over in Germany, Oliver and Emma were competing in the Adler Cup. A very well attended event with huge groups. Oliver ended the day just losing out for bronze in the u46k While Emma picked up a battling bronze in the u9 year group.
In Abu Dhabi, John was earning more Olympic qualifying points at the grand slam losing to ex World Champion Tchrikishvilli from Georgia after a fantastic 1st round victory.

Moberly Stars at Welsh Junior and Senior Open 2019

Massive well done to Reuel who won a bronze medal in the Welsh Senior Open last week at u73k. Reuel put on quite a display of throwing skills winning an excellent bronze. He also fought in the Juniors but just missed the medals placing 5th. Daniel was also showing his vast improvement as he also came 5th in the u66k juniors. Anna (u63k juniors), Dinari and Oliver (u55k juniors), and Michael (u73k senior) just missed out but picked up worthwhile experience.
On the same day in Osterley a small but capable squad of u8s and red belts fought their hearts out at the Osterley Fun festival and Red belt event. Gold was won in the red belt section by Nyrel, Silver for Abdullah in his first red belt event and bronzes for brothers Igor and Tumon. The under 8s, Emma, Joanne, Adnan and Tyreece enjoyed another great event picking up more fantastic positive experiences. Emma also won the best girl award.

Moberly Star John in Estonia

In Talin, Estonia, John was competing in the European Judo Open in the u90k. After some hard fought victories, including against old rival PETGRAVE from GB, John made it to the semi-final, but a loss put him against the same competitor he beat in the bronze final in Luxembourg. This time John had to settle for 5th place, but more points towards Olympic qualification.

Moberly Stars at Alkmaar, Emmen and Bishop Stortford

In Alkmaar, Dinari won gold in the u55k u18 category with 4 great victories, including a golden score win in the final. Oliver ‘General’ Lee produced a fantastic performance to win his first international medal taking the bronze in the same group. Oliver Almond was travelling with the REDS and had fought a day earlier in Emmen where he achieved a 7th place finish. At Alkmaar he suffered a loss in the 1st round but then proceeded to win his next 6 contests to claim a well deserved bronze medal in the u46k u15 section. Omar placed 5th in the u50k u18 and Ali missed out in the u46k u15. Unfortunately for both Kyle and Kamal in the u60k u18 section, the team had to leave the event to catch the train so they had to be pulled out of the event.

Finally, Moberly’s last medal was won by Emma who won a fantastic gold medal at the Bishop Stortford u8 fun festival.

Moberly Star John at the European Open – Luxembourg

John was also in action, winning a fantastic bronze at the European Open Luxembourg.

He beat MAGKEYEV (FRA) in the first round. He followed this up with victory over PETR (CZE). A quarter-final loss to PETERSILKA (GER), meant John had to win two contests for the bronze.

He then beat NGAYAP (FRA) and then finished with a hard fought victory over JOUBERT (FRA) to claim his second senior grand prix medal.
