Kirk started Judo at aged 15, ironically at Moberly Sports centre under Pete Bailey. Kirk then joined Chalkhill Judo Club where he remained until 2008 when the club were forced to close due to development work in the area. While at Chalkhill Kirk achieved his career highlights of winning the British Trials and being a member of the British Team that won the European Team Championships.
Kirk has also represented GB at the world famous Kano Cup in Japan. See the You tube link below. As a coach Kirk has been responsible for a number of international competitors including Michelle Holt and Lloyd Alexander both of whom were very successful judoka.
Kirk regards Neil Adams as his best very opponent, and Lloyd Mentor and Roy Inman as the coaches who had the greatest influence on him. Kirk was awarded his 6th Dan in November 2000.
